Ski more for your buck: It's simple. We charge you per vertical foot that you ski. We only put the maximum number of people we can fly in our facility at a time, so you always have a seat in the helicopter, and no matter how much time you spend in the air, you only pay for the vertical you ski. At other heli ski operations, you pay for the time you spend in the helicopter. This means that if you fly farther to a "secret stash" you pay more, and ski the same amount or less because you've spent more time flying than skiing.

Small, personal groups: We book only the number of people we can fly at all times.  At VHC, you are not a number, but a valued guest through out your entire stay at VHC. Our guest to guide ratio is 4:1, ensuring that your trip is catered to you and your wishes.

Ski even when we can't fly: At VHC, you ski regardless of the weather by using snowcats when helicopters can't fly - FOR NO EXTRA CHARGE WITH YOUR HELI SKI PACKAGE. We are able to move from snowcat skiing to heliskiing within minutes as weather conditions dictate.

We don't sit you in the lodge to wait it out, or send you river rafting on a day when the powder is falling - you came to ski. Access some of the best terrain in the Chugach right out our back door by hopping on our PistenBully snowcats and making turns when guests at other operations are playing cards in their rooms.

No waiting for heli time: There's nothing worse than waiting in line for a ride at Disneyland - except waiting in line to heli ski in Alaska! We only book the number of people we can fly at any given moment, and we don't let people's reservations back up because of delays due to weather. You are always skiing, flying or riding in a snowcat, not waiting in line and competing with other guests' reservations.

You don't have to be pro: The skiing and snowboarding opportunities found at Valdez Heli-Camps are second to none and offer much variety. For those that enjoy the freedom of wide-open slopes and skiing side by side with friends, our pilots can easily fly to less technical slopes. In fact, these less technical slopes can offer a higher level of security allowing us to achieve larger amounts of vertical for those with a preference for this type of experience.  This can happen on the same day in areas directly adjacent to groups working the high angle terrain.  Quite often you can watch other groups from across the valley challenging the Chugach while you are doing the same at your level or, mix it up bit, with some steep challenging runs and some powder cruisers of your own!!!!

Sleep and dine in comfort: As you step off the plane in Alaska, you can rest assured that there is a warm, inviting lodging atmosphere and meal waiting for you.  Our lodging package includes airport transfer, breakfast, lunch and dinner, down day activity coordination, host services, local transportation, and single and double occupancy options.  Relax in the hot tub or pool and stay, dine, and socialize with the pilots, guides, and fellow skiers you meet on your trip in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere.

Safety first: At Valdez Heli-Camps, your safety is our number one priority.  With this in mind, we settle for nothing less than the best guides in the business.  A professional guide is the key to ensuring that you not only have the best time you've ever had in your life, but that you maximize the potential of any slope and ski the right areas at the right time.  All of our guides have extensive heli-skiing and back country guiding experience as well as the most current emergency procedure, first aid, and rescue training available today.  As intense mountain sport enthusiasts themselves, our guides understand the needs of our customers and bend over backwards to make sure that your experience is second to none.

Only with Valdez Heli-Camps in Alaska

  • No Hidden Charges. You pay for your ski time not the flightime to get there. Ferry times to destinations far from the take off point quickly burn through what you've paid for with other companies.
  • Guaranteed Seats. With Valdez Heli-Camps you have first priority on our helicopters and snowcats each day of your stay. When the great conditions arrive you are guaranteed a seat and will not be jockeying for position with other clients as happens with operations that sell non-specific or floating days. (Imagine having blue sky and powder only to find out that 2 groups from the previous week have decided to stay for the good conditions during your week.) Have a first class ticket instead of your name on the stand by list.

THE VALDEZ HELI-CAMPS VERTICAL ADVANTAGE!

The skiing and snowboarding opportunities found at Valdez Heli-Camps are second to none and offer much variety. Valdez Heli-Camps tends to attract a high caliber of skier/rider. Several of our groups visit us specifically for the steeper slopes that Valdez is famous for. The responsibility of utilizing these slopes quite often dictates that we ski one at a time to minimize exposure to any hazards that may exist on slopes such as these. Accessing the type of terrain that produces the high quality experience we strive to provide to our guests can often mean more time is required to negotiate a slope. This can equate to less vertical over the course of a day or a week than one might find at a typical heliski operation. The great benefit is found in the quality of a very unique and challenging skiing experience. One like you will find in no other place.

The satisfaction of challenging yourself at a high level with the security of a small professionally guided team, just 4 riders of the same ability, offers a much more enjoyable experience than could be expected where the focus trends toward maximum vertical calculation for the operator to bill out. Racking up run after run along side several people of varying abilities, in some instances, as many as 10 or 11 people in a group does not compare to what is available with Valdez Heli-Camps.

This is one of the most important reasons why skiing in Valdez with Valdez Heli-Camps has gained the reputation it has throughout the world!

For those that do enjoy the freedom of wide-open slopes skiing and snowboarding side by side with friends and comrades nothing is sacrificed at Valdez Heli-Camps! We can quite easily provide for this level of desire. We accommodate several first-time heliskiers and those whose goals are to put up the big vertical numbers that are produced by "lapping up the Chugach" in one of our very fast A-Stars helicopters. These less technical slopes can offer a higher level of security allowing us to achieve large amounts of vertical for those with a preference for this type of experience. Our guests often choose this option and ski on the same day in areas directly adjacent to those groups working the high angle terrain. Quite often you can watch other groups from across the valley challenging the Chugach while you are doing the same at your level or, mix it up bit, with some steep challenging runs and some powder cruisers of your own!!!!

Explaining the Heliskiing Package Vertical Guarantee: The amount of vertical achieved in a week depends on conditions and the group's desired experience. The guarantees of 40,000, 50,000 and 80,000 feet are based on historical averages and used for creating a base price for your trip. On average our groups will achieve 80,000 feet in a typical week accessing our steep technical slopes. Many riders that prefer more open powder skiing, on slopes of higher relative security may easily ski more than 100,000 in a week. An average ski day from the helicopter will produce 20,000 vertical feet. If we consider that we may expect 4 out of 6 days in an average week of flying we arrive at 80,000 feet for a base price for the 6-day 7-night package. This same thought process applies to the 3 and 4 day packages and their relative guarantees. This formula has proven to give our guests a very realistic expectation of the total amount they will be spend on their stay with us. Seldom do extra vertical charges or credits exceed $500 in value as observed over our 10 years of experience with our pricing system.

Explaining the Snowcat Alternative: With the large amounts of snow that blanket the Chugach Mountains surrounding Valdez each year, it should be expected that there will be weather days that prevent heliskiing during your stay. With Valdez Heli-Camps this is not a concern to you reaching the mountains. On those snowy days you can expect to be skiing from one of our heated and comfortable Pisten Bully snowcats. Our Snowcat terrain ranges in elevation from 500' to 4200' above sea level with the longest single runs producing over 3100 vertical feet of skiing. The terrain also offers some treed areas for good visibility on the stormiest low light days as well. A normal snowcat ski day will produce 12-14,000 feet of skiing and for heliski package clients utilizing their guaranteed seat in the snowcats on these days we debit the vertical account just 9,000 feet for this service to you. * It is important to remember that from the snowcat alternative at any time should the weather change, we will immediately vault to the helicopters to continue the ski day heliskiing. No helicopter ski service known to us can provide such an option to all of its guests each day of their stay and is all part of our inclusive service to you.

While researching your heliskiing package options around the world remember that...

  • Only Valdez Heli-Camps can offer this combination of incredible terrain and daily access by helicopters or snowcats.
  • Our Snowcats are at your disposal and require no additional commitment or cost to you to have this alternative for skiing or riding on days when others are "stopped in their tracks. "
  • The fastest reaction time to improving flying weather takes you to the helicopters at the first available opportunity right from your snowcat in just minutes.
  • Vertical guarantees mean you pay for the skiing your group achieves, no ferry costs or premiums if we must travel further from our base to the best snow and terrain while you are with us. Find this nowhere but with Valdez Heli-Camps in Alaska!
  • · Extra vertical charges of just $25 dollars per thousand feet reward our package guests. Example: A normal day of heliskiing for a walk-on client is currently $899.00 and includes 18-20,000 vertical feet of skiing. That same 20,000 feet of vertical purchased as additional vertical to any of our 3, 4, or 6-day package guarantees costs our guests just 20K X $25= $500.00
  • All heliskiing adventures demand that the client share a risk of difficult weather on their visit. Valdez Heli-Camps is unique to the industry by including our snowcat alternative to your heliski package with no additional commitment.  Our all-inclusive package guests have a guaranteed seat in both the helicopters and snowcats each day of their stay.  We at VHC feel that it is equally fair that should we experience exceptionally good conditions and our basic operating commitments are met, we should reward our guests with the low cost option to ski as much as you can on your visit.
