Heli
boarding in Valdez Alaska is one of lifes
greatest experiences |
Alaska Heli Snowboarding
Snowboarding has come a long way since the 1960s,
when Sherman Poppen first invented his Snurfer.
At first, the invention had a limited appeal. Since
most of the skiing population frowned upon snowboarding,
they were prohibited on the regular ski slopes.
As a result, snowboarding began as an off-piste
activity.
Snowboarding began to gain popularity in the 1970s
and 1980s, when Jake Burton created the Burton
Snowboard. At first, snowboarding was a sport associated
with youth, teenagers and 20-somethings. Nowadays,
people of all ages enjoy the sport. Along with
the World Extreme Skiing Competition, Valdez ,
Alaska hosts the King of the Hill Snowboard Championship.
In his 1995 film Endless Winter , Warren
Miller thrilled audiences with the sight of four
snowboarders descending the slopes of Valdez ,
Alaska . This would be the first time that snowboarding
was featured in one of Miller's films. Valdez was
also the primary location for the Teton Gravity
Research film Harvest , which featured
snowboarders riding the sick terrain of the Chugach
Mountains . If you've seen either of these films,
you probably dream of riding here. Why not live
your dream?
Valdez
Heli-Camps is the logical choice
for your heli snowboarding vacation. The Chugach
Mountains are quite simply a rider's dream.
They will entice you with steep lines and dry
powder that begs to be carved. The town of
Valdez is situated along the Prince William
Sound , and the Valdez Heli-Camps lodge is
centrally located in the village. After enjoying
a delicious home cooked meal, you are within
walking distance of the bars and nightlife.
Don't party too hard!
