Alaska State Ferry

Looking for a way to complete your true adventure to Valdez? Taking the Alaska Marine Highway to Valdez (AKA Alaska State Ferry) might be the way to come.

The coastal communities of South-central Alaska are the outdoor playgrounds for more than half of the state's population. The Southcentral Alaska ferry service takes you through beautiful Prince William Sound and into the Gulf of Alaska and Lower Cook Inlet. Ferry travelers thrill to spectacular views of ice-blue glaciers, tranquil fjords, lush forests, and unbelievable concentrations of seabirds and marine wildlife. The Alaska south central route connects to the southwest Alaska route through scheduled services from Homer and Whittier to Kodiak. See the running times table for information about running times between ports in South Central Alaska.

There are some drawbacks to the ferry, and you might want to tie one direction of your trip in with an alternate method.

The winter schedules to Valdez do not run very often, so if you and your travel companions want to take advantage of this unique method, start planning now!  You may be able to route your trip from Bellingham (just north of Seattle) to Valdez. Or you may want to take the quick hop from Whittier, Alaska (about an hour south of Anchorage).

Again, this is the least often used method by our clients, and ferry schedules to Valdez vary greatly from month to month - particularly Summer to Winter season.  Contact the Alaska State Ferry and Marine Highway booking office for more information!
