Adventure skiing
At some point during the cycle of life, everyone
yearns for some adventure. It's hard to resist
the urge to challenge yourself in an unfamiliar
environment, where the outcome of your endeavors
is uncertain. Skiing is unique, in that the very
first time on skis is, for most people, an adventure.
Since skiing bares little similarity to other sports,
the desire to learn to ski suggests an adventurous
spirit.
Once a skier has gained
a basic level of proficiency, they might choose
to stay in their comfort zone. You see them on
the hill, carving beautiful "S" shaped
turns down the corduroy slopes. Those with a more
adventurous spirit venture out into moguls and
powder. Some discover the thrill of the half pipe.
Others travel the globe in search of the perfect
mountain.
For some skiers, the yearning for adventure becomes
addictive. They learn to snowboard and telemark.
Gradually, they begin to look with resentment at
the ropes that define the trails at their local
ski area. The backcountry calls to them. They long
to boldly ski where no man or woman has skied before.
What happens to us when
we tune into our adventurous spirit? Our intuition
sharpens and our problem solving skills improve.
We develop a deeper sense of comraderie with
our fellow adventurers. Eventually, we learn
to enjoy living our lives "on the edge." After
all, the edge is where you get the best views.
Adventure skiing is a life transforming experience.
